Clone of Epidural Steroid Injections

An epidural steroid injection is administered through an opening in the sacrum, the triangular bone in the lower back. The injection contains steroid medications and anesthetics to decrease inflammation and pain in the low back, rectal, or groin regions.

A fluoroscope and contrast solution may be used during the procedure to ensure the needle is placed accurately.

Pain relief from epidural steroid injections varies, depending upon the patient’s symptoms and condition. Individuals may experience several weeks or months of subsequent relief.
